A Rewarding Teen Driving Experience

The Driving Skills For Life program is being brought to various cities in the whole country by the Ford Motor Company Fund as well as by the Governors Highway Safety Association (or commonly known as the GHSA). And this program is just the big umbrella that covers other small ones like the Operation Teen Safe Driving, which, of course, is set out to assist and educate teenage drivers.

This time around, the program is already in Illinois and the organizers are working with the state’s Department of Transportation. There have been around 360 teenage drivers already taking part of the whole course and there are still more to come especially the end part this coming May 8th to the 10th wherein these young drivers would be allowed to take that spot behind the wheel and do the driving themselves.

Other than that, it has also been reported that the organizers of the mentioned campaign and program would also be sending out their congratulations and accolades to the state’s local high schools which have been a great help in letting teenage drivers be more safe when driving and have the right amount of training before they actually are set loose in the streets in their Fram filter-equipped vehicles.

Michael R. Stout is the current director for the Illinois Department of Transportation’s division on traffic safety. He also is the current head for the Illinois arm of the GHSA. And on this event, he expresses, “Illinois has been grateful and thrilled to have Ford and GHSA partner with us in improving the skills of teen drivers. We're convinced this program will result in fewer teen crashes. Furthermore, it's the type of program that makes it enjoyable to learn these important skills.”

Jim Graham is Ford’s community relations manager and he states, “This program has been very challenging to the teens as they have created their various campaign plans, and the ride-and-drive certainly will enhance their experience. The bottom line is that we hope this particular program and event improves teen safety in Tazewell County and nearby communities.”

The chairperson of the GHSA, Christopher J. Murphy, also has got something to share, “This is the first time we have conducted such a broad, county-wide program, and we're delighted with the interest it has generated in the schools. Grassroots programs such as this are very important in our efforts to spread the Driving Skills for Life message and save teen lives.”
